Vodafone McLaren Mercedes ha svelato la nuova monoposto MP4-28 al McLaren Technology Centre. "La MP4-28 sarà ancora più veloce della macchina del 2012", ha sentenziato il team principal Martin Whitmarsh. Musetto alto, semiasse carenato, pance molto larghe, la nuova arrivata riprende e reinterpreta alcune soluzioni già viste sulle rivali Red Bull e Ferrari; più conservativi diffusore e ala posteriore. Il motore Mercedes-Benz FO 108F a 8 cilindri e 2.4 litri raggiunge i 18,000 giri/min e pesa 95 kg.
Protagonisti della giornata i due piloti Jenson Button, 33 anni, inglese, campione del mondo 2009 con la BrawnGP, alla sua quarta stagione a Woking e Sergio "Checo" Perez, 23 anni, messicano, arrivato dalla Sauber con il difficile compito di sostituire Lewis Hamilton, passato alla Mercedes.
